From Paris Court Square, take 79 East toward Dover for approximately 4 miles. Turn right (East) on Elkhorn Road and follow for approximately 2 and 1/4 miles unitl you reach Nobles Road. Turn left (North) on Nobles Road and immediately start looking to your left. The cemetery is about 50 yards up the road inside a chain link fence around a grove of trees and brush. If you see a cow pasture to your left, you've gone too far.

Travel time from Paris Court Square is approximately 10-15 minutes.

There is no easy way to say it, the Hughes Cemetery is in horrible condition. I have read in a few places that the cemetery has suffered a lot of broken stones due to cattle grazing in the past, but we cannot say this is all of the problem because the brush and vegetation have grown up so much that it is difficult to locate graves at all. A chain link fence was erected around the cemetery sometime in the seventies or eighties, judging by the Sears logo on the fence door. This fence serves purpose in visualizing the size and shape of the cemetery, but also shows how much of the cemetery is inaccessible due to the amount of brush built up.

There are a few stones broken at the entrance that were seen. My wife found a few Nance stones behind some hanging vines, but that is all we were able to find and photograph. The majority of this listing is from the Compendium.

If anyone is aware of an effort to clean up the Hughes Cemetery, have any information on the cemetery, know the current property owners, please please please email me.
