From Paris court square, take 79 East toward Dover approximately 4 and 1/2 miles to Elkhorn Road. Turn right (East) on Elkhorn Road and follow it for approximately 300 yards. Turn right on Alman Cemetery Road. The road will bend to the left after about 1/2 mile. The cemetery is on the South side of this bend (straight in front of you) and marked with a sign.

Travel time from Paris Court Square is approximately 10-15 minutes.

Condition/History Back to Top
The Allmond Cemetery sits inside a present-day neighborhood of family homes and enjoys regular care. Time seems to be the only culprit to explain a few broken stones. Overall, condition is excellent.

We have spoken with Sue Meeks, a descendant of Edmond & Nancy Allmond, who donated the land for the public use of the cemetery sometime in the 1840s. Mrs. Meeks' husband cares for the cemetery today and has found a few more sandstone markers along the southern fence line where it is thought that Allmond slaves may be buried.

In the beginning, there was some confusion as to the actual spelling of the cemetery's name. Our three choices seem to be "Allmond," which appears on the wooden sign marking the cemetery; "Allman," which appears on maps marking its location; and "Alman," which appears on the street signs marking Alman Cemetery Road. We weren't 100% sure of how to call this one until we went through the pictures and actually looked hard at the two stones there are for these persons. Image 005a shows it best - on Edmond Allmond's stone, the spelling is clearly "Allmond."
